As Time Goes By (Starstruck! Version)

One Wednesday on 2010, I stumbled upon a pullout called Stuff@School while reading The Star in class. Why does it appeal me? The only reason at that time was that it was about weird habits artists and students have. *ahem* Anyway, I didn’t manage to read them all due to the fact that the teacher came in and the paper never lasted until the end of the day (thanks to my savage classmates).

And so started the obsession over that particular pullout very Wednesday when I get the paper. Unknown to me, that pullout was actually written by people my own age from throughout Malaysia – that’s explain why the writing styles are so layoff compared to other part of the newspaper. Moving from KOPU to PC, I had forgotten about that pullout for awhile since I don’t have a clue on how to get the pullout. Thankfully, PC subscribes to The Star daily and so I reunited with my favorite pullout once again.

As time goes by, I had noticed that they have a particular slot for students to comment on topic offered using Facebook as the platform. Since I’m stuck in hell disguised as a boarding school, I can’t access the internet much as I pleased. The moment only happened when I was at home with my trusted servant – my laptop. Visiting the page for the first time, it just occurred to me that the writers are especially easy-going and they intended to inspired people to converse in English.

My first comment was simple enough and I wasn’t actually expecting it to be published on the paper.

It did.

Delighted by it, I had dedicated part of my Facebook time just to be part of this social page and interacting with other people in Malaysia who – unlike most people I had known in my life (most of them are Malay Kelantanese anyway) – are not afraid to use the English Language freely. I had entered competitions, reviewed songs and commented the Soapbox just for fun.

And so it lasted until the end of the year. As I’m expecting much for 2012’s Stuff@School, the last pullout caught my interest.

They’re searching for new writers for next year…….

(As much cliché this will sounds like, to be continue...)
